In the past the horse was used to work on the fields or in front of the coach. Nowadays other factors play an important role in the relation between human and horse. The horse has become a partner in sport and leisure with a high emotional role. Not only the way of using the horse has changed. Also the horses' needs in feeding have changed.
Mr. de Lange explored this many years ago and founded Stimulan B.V. in 1963. Located in Zwolle, the company was primary producing feed for calves. In 1968 Pavo (=PAardenVOeding) was founded and Mr. de Lange started to develop special horse feed.
Soon he realized the great potential of horse feed in the future and so Stimulan focused on horse feed completly in the 80's.
In 1988 Pavo was sold to U.T. Delfia B.V. and the company moved from Zwolle to Terschuur in 1992. For many people in the Netherlands Pavo is still well known for the giant horse on the factory roof.
In 1998 U.T. Delfia B.V. was overtaken by Nutreco. Pavo was part of the Nutreco Holding NV until 2012.
The plant in Terschuur became too small and there was no place for expansion in 2002. The headquarter was re-located to Appeldoorn and the plants moved to Helmond and Heijen.
Since 2010 the plant in Heijen is completly focused on Müsli-Production.
In 2011 the headquarter moved to Boxmeer and Pavo became part of Nutreco's business unit Hendrix Utd.
Hendrix Utd. was overtaken by ForFarmers, one of the biggest companies delivering animal feed in Europe, in April 2012. The ForFarmers headquarter is located in Lochem.
This had no consequences for Pavo. The plant in Heijen keeps on producing Müsli and the Pavo Main Office is also located there since June 2013.
